In addition to and to complement the Antalya Courses, the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) has conceived the idea of matching high profile educational efforts according to the current international standards – based on interactive seminars and video presentations – with a focused hands-on exposure of each trainee under the supervision of expert tutors. This latter scenario will materialize in Elancourt, Paris, France, where, in collaboration with Covidien, the ESTS has organized biannual surgical training on the pig model starting in April 2008. To facilitate the acquisition of technical skills, only one topic per Elancourt Session will be selected for the two-day course to be held in Spring and in Autumn each year.
An international faculty will preferentially included ESTS members, albeit exceptions for top quality speakers and tutors may be made. As in Antalya, the Elancourt Courses of the ESTS School aim at providing up-to-date educational tools to both trainees and junior consultants. The School Programme is also outlined to meet the requirements of recertification and revalidation.
The routine schedule will accommodate lectures and videos in the morning and lab experience in the afternoon. The number of operating tables will be decided based on the anticipated attendance but adequate individual exposure to the surgical procedures is warranted.
In addition, on the first day, a collegial dinner will be offered after the course in one of the superb locations around Paris to facilitate student-tutor relationship in a very friendly environment.
The fee for the Elancourt Course includes:
- Transportation to and from airport/railway station
- Transportation from the hotel to the venue in Elancourt
- Transportation to and from the collegial dinner venue
- Use of lab facilities and catering for lunches and coffee breaks
- Hotel accommodation for 2 nights (with breakfast)
The dates of the Elancourt Course of the ESTS School will be posted on the ESTS website and communicated to the ESTS membership with sufficient notice to allow for registration.
